How it works

Bulk File Renamer in 4 steps

  1. Choose or drop your files. You can add more later, up to 500 files and 500MB total, with a 25MB limit per file.

  2. Keep the existing names or enter a new base name. Combine find and replace, prefixes, suffixes, numbering, case changes, and cleanup.

  3. Review the before-and-after table. Sort or move files to control numbering; duplicate names are given unique suffixes automatically.

  4. Download one renamed file for free, or export the complete batch as a ZIP with your existing GenClean Pro license.

When to use it

Rename a product shoot, screenshot collection, or document batch in one place. Combine naming rules, inspect each original and new filename, and download renamed copies. No image decoding or re-encoding is needed: the file contents stay exactly the same.

  • Name product images consistently before adding them to a store or catalog.
  • Replace camera filenames with a project name and padded sequence numbers.
  • Clean up screenshot names or add a date prefix to document copies.
  • Apply the same naming convention to images, PDFs, and other file types.

Format & quality notes

  • Only the filenames change. Image quality, metadata, file contents, and original files remain untouched.
  • Extensions keep their original case unless you enable lowercase extensions. Changing a name does not convert a format.
  • Duplicate names are resolved case-insensitively; unsafe path characters and reserved names are adjusted for portable downloads.
  • Regex uses JavaScript patterns with capture groups such as $1. Regular expressions run in a worker with a timeout so a slow pattern cannot freeze the page.
  • Free users can preview the entire batch and download one file. Batch ZIP export is included in GenClean Pro, not a separate purchase.
FAQ

Questions about the Bulk File Renamer.

Is the bulk file renamer included in my existing Pro plan?

Yes. Your existing GenClean Pro license unlocks batch ZIP export. Activate it in the same browser through the pricing page if it is not already active. There is no additional purchase for this tool.

Can I try it without Pro?

Yes. Rename and download a single file for free, or select a batch to preview all proposed names. Downloading the batch as a ZIP requires Pro.

Does this change my original files or image quality?

No. Downloads are renamed copies with the same bytes. The tool does not modify files on disk, re-encode images, remove metadata, or convert formats.

What happens if two files get the same name?

The preview adds a numbered suffix such as (2) before the extension. Matching is case-insensitive so the ZIP can be extracted on common Windows and macOS filesystems without overwriting a same-named file.

Can I rename PDFs and other files too?

Yes. The tool works with filenames rather than decoding images, so PDFs, documents, audio, and other files are supported. Batches are limited to 500 files, 25MB per file, and 500MB total to keep browser memory use manageable.

Can the tool choose descriptive names from image contents?

No. This is a rule-based renamer, not an AI image recognizer. Enter a meaningful base name, prefix, or replacement and use numbering for a consistent batch.
