How it works

PNG Metadata Viewer in 3 steps

  1. Drop a PNG onto the tool or click Choose File.

  2. The report lists text chunk keywords, timestamps, and any EXIF block.

  3. Clean the file in one click if you'd rather not ship that data.

When to use it

PNGs hide their secrets in text chunks - and lately those chunks are interesting: AI image generators like Stable Diffusion write the full prompt, seed, and settings into every PNG they produce. Read what a PNG is carrying here, locally, whether it's your own export or an image you received.

  • Read the generation prompt embedded in an AI image.
  • Check design exports for creator and software tags before delivery.
  • Inspect screenshots for embedded metadata before attaching them publicly.

Format & quality notes

  • PNG metadata lives in tEXt/iTXt/zTXt chunks plus optional timestamp and EXIF chunks.
  • AI tools commonly use chunk keywords like 'parameters' or 'prompt' - they'll show in the report.
  • Viewing changes nothing; the cleaner produces a lossless clean copy when you want one.
FAQ

Questions about the PNG Metadata Viewer.

Can I see the full AI prompt inside a PNG?

The report shows which text chunks exist by keyword - enough to know a prompt is embedded. Full chunk contents display is coming to the report next.

Do all PNGs have metadata?

No - many are clean. Screenshots and AI-generated images are the usual carriers, which is exactly what's worth checking.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The PNG is parsed in your browser's memory and nothing leaves your device.
